Buchi Atuonwu, popularly known as Buchi, is a Nigerian reggae gospel artiste who started his music career as a disc jockey in nightclubs. He is a member of the LoveWorld Music and Arts Ministry of Christ Embassy.
Buchi began his academic career at Federal Government College and Methodist College in Enugu. In 1983, he was accepted at the University of Lagos to pursue a degree in English and literary studies. Before he became a born-again Christian, Buchi was a reggae music DJ at "Floating Buka", a nightclub domiciled in a boat along the marina, Lagos under the tutelage of reggae music icon, Ras Kimono that served as his training ground. When he became a church boy after a beleaguered lifestyle, his dramatic salvation and love for music spurred him to delve into singing, but this time, gospel music with a flavour of reggae. This combination of gospel and reggae projected him very high in the gospel music mindustry and stood him out amongst his peers.
Through his distinctive musical style, he has since dominated the gospel music world and is credited as a Nigerian gospel singer who is incredibly gifted and innovative.
Buchi Bwai as he is fondly called is a songwriter, producer, and author. He has ministered in several church concerts, including Reinhard Bonnke’s stadium-packed outreaches.
He has a number of publications and studio CDs to his credit that are intended to evangelize and draw people to Christ. Buchi Atuonwu is MD/CEO of Kulture Yard, a kingdom minded lounge and hangout in Ikeja and lives in Lagos with his family.
