Mike Aremu was born in Kaduna state and grew up in Minna, Niger State. Originally an Ogbomosho, Oyo State native, Mike Aremu, attended Limawa Primary School,Minna, Government Secondary school, Minna, all in Niger State and proceeded to Federal Polytechnic,Ilaro in Ogun State where he studied electrical engineering.
King Mike Aremu, as he is fondly called by his fans and admirers, is recognised and celebrated as a world-class saxophonist and the most successful Jazzist from Nigeria and West Africa. His interest in music began early, and his music transcends class, age, and race. His unique ability to fuse traditional Nigerian beats into contemporary tunes that appeal to foreign and local audiences stands him out.
During his early years, Mike was a regular member of the Compassion Band of Strong Tower Mission from where he joined the music team of House on the Rock Church. As his confidence and expertise grew, Mike began to make appearances in high-brow venues like Pintos, K's Place, Green Lion, Club Towers, and The Dome, Mega Plaza in Lagos City.
In 1999, he signed a record deal with Kennis Music, releasing two charts topping albums,"Dance" in 1999, and "No Shaking" in 2002, making record breaking sales of almost two million copies, the first ever for a Jazz artist in Nigeria. Mike Aremu has also recorded two songs for the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) in the United States of America.
These days, King Mike spends more time travelling and performing at Venues around the world, which has seen him share stages with Kenny G, Hugh Masekela, Najee, Bill Laurence, Kirk Franklin, Marvin Winans, Israel Houghton, Mary Mary, Fred Hammond, Judith Sephuma, India Irie, Yinka Davies,, Agboola Shadare, Yolanda Brown amongst others.
Mike's dexterity has earned him several awards notably: TOMA Awards, AMEN Awards, MEGA Awards, Crystal Awards, AGMMA Awards, UK, KORA Awards, JCI's Ten Outstanding Young People - Best Self-Developed Personality Award amongst others.
King Mike Aremu has performed at sold-out events like The Experience, Lagos, London Festival of Life, FOL, Wales, and Scotland, the Green Belt Festival, and is a regular at KICC, London and many branches of The Redeemed Christian Church of God Worldwide. His self organised Sax Appeal is always a sold-out event in Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria.
King Mike Aremu has become a name synonymous with the Saxophone and is happily married and a father.
